SmartLipo & CoolLipo
VaserLipo Compared To SmartLipo & CoolLipo
In simple terms, SmartLipo and CoolLipo are Laser based liposuction that “Burns & Melts” fat. The tip of the laser is extremely hot and as it moves along burning fat it is also burning surrounding connective tissue. Compared to Regular Liposuction with a Plastic Surgeon, SmartLipo and CoolLipo are gentler on the body and they say the burning effect is an added bonus because it cauterize the procedure area, but it still traumatic to the body.
Vaserlipo uses gentle ultrasound which will pop fat cells it comes in contact with. There is no burning or melting going on during the process. It is simply targeting only the fat cells with a specific sound frequency and destroying them and leaving all other surrounding tissue intact. There is no need for the Vaserlipo to cauterize the area because it is not damaging the surrounding tissue which can cause excess bleeding, like SmartLipo and CoolLipo.
In terms of length of the treatment and surgery, SmartLipo & CoolLipo will take hours longer then VaserLipo. VaserLipo is only targeting fat cells and it will literally speed through the fat as if it's going through water, because it only targets the fat cells and makes them burst on contact.
SmartLipo and CoolLipo has to burn through fat cells and the front tip has to be constantly monitored very closely because it can burn through tissue. There has been known cases of the laser burning it's away through an abdominal wall because the operator lost sight of the laser tip and kept pushing forward.
VaserLipo will not and can not burn it's way through any tissue, because there is no extreme heat involved
Skin Tightening
VaserLipo stimulate the epidermal layer with it's unique frequency and it has been proven to show amazing skin tightening results. There is a specific setting on the VaserLipo machine made just for tightening the skin. Some of our patients request the surgery just to tighten up skin, but depending on how much of the skins elasticity has been lost, it may take several sessions for the skin to return to normal elasticity.
CoolLipo and SmartLipo tighten skin by using the heat of the laser tip. The heat will draw the moisture out of the skin and will make the skin shrink down, giving the appearance that the skin is tighter.
The Procedure
VaserLipo, SmartLipo, and CoolLipo are all performed the same way using local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Dr. Kathleen Smith prefers to use tumescent as a way to numb the area and she takes several extra step in terms of sterilization with her specializing sterilized technique. Many doctors can and do perform these liposuction procedures with minimal sterilization.
In terms of recovery VaserLipo patient will recover faster because there is less trauma to the body involved. But just like SmartLipo and CoolLipo a patient is required to where a compression garment for as long as possible. You will also have to take full spectrum antibiotics and a mild pain killer. Some patients don't require the pain killer and are fine taking aspirin.
Regular Liposuction
Traditional liposuction can mean lengthy recovery times, scars, and less than ideal results. There is a longer time that a patient has to wear compression garments and they have increase scars because of invasiveness of typical liposuction surgeries. A typical liposuction surgery leaves a noticeable and large scar on the skin in the area and scar tissue under the skin. After a typical surgery, a patient has to have someone drive him/her home because of the general anesthesia used. The downtime is for a few days and will leave the patient with fair amount of soreness in the area. It is always associated with bruising and swelling starting the first day and lasting for a few weeks. Many people who have liposuction done do not see the results till the intense swelling has gone down.
With Vaser Laser Liposuction, there is little to no bruising and usually only seen with patients who tend to bruise easily. With VaserLipo the very small entry points in the skin heal uneventfully and the scars that might be left usually are unapparent or unnoticeable with little to no scar tissue developing. Patients do wear compression garments but for shorter amounts of time than with conventional liposuction.
For many treatments done with Vaser Laser Liposuction, there is very little down time with VaserLipo - typically 3 to 4 days after the procedure, the patient is back to normal activity. Some patients are able to drive themselves home, but we recommend having someone to accompany them depending on the local anesthesia used and the total time of the procedure.
The downside to Vaser Laser Liposuction, compared to regular liposuction, is that it’s a bit more time consuming. It might take 2 to 3 hours to suction out a large quantity of fat that could be removed in an hour with regular liposuction. For this reason alone, very few plastic surgeons in the US will not use it.
Lipodissolve
Another technique being marketed with liposuction assistance is Lipodissolve which is the procedure of injecting a toxic liquid that dissolves fat, often without the need for anesthesia. It may appear that this option is the best and least invasive, at least on the surface, but consider for a moment, what actually happens as the fat is being destroyed in the body without removal. The body has to repair it self AND remove these damaged fat cells and dispose of them, not to mention the toxic liquid it has to combat and remove out of the body.
In large areas, this process of fat removal and most importantly the healing process can take months and exposes the individual to the risk of retained fragments of fat cells and have severe lumps or skin bumps, and even infection resulting from decayed fat particles. Lipodissolve may be used for treating small areas of fat, but for most people the fatty deposits are extensive and the risks are simply too great to take with injecting toxins into the body.
