Overview

The Cool Laser liposuction ( CoolLipo ) is FDA approved, permanently removes fat, proven skin tightening, with minimal blood loss during the procedure. CoolLipo uses a micro-cannula attached to an optical cable that uses 15 watts of energy to permanently remove fat out of the body; in addition it uses a unique wavelength to target the collagen and connective tissue resulting in skin tightening from the inside out. The blood loss associated with this advanced Liposuction technique is minimal because the laser has a beneficial side effect where it cauterizes the treatment area are it goes along, slowing down blood loss.

Skin Tightening

The CoolLipo laser uses a unique wavelength ( 1320nm ) which targets the collagen and connective tissue and causes skin tightening from the inside out giving you almost instant skin tightening results. In most cases of excess skin, the CoolLipo system can bring back the skins elasticity without the need of cutting and removal of skin that is associated with Tummy Tucks. Depending on the severity of the damage to the skins elasticity, multiple treatments may be needed to bring back the skins elasticity strength to the area.

The Procedure

The CoolLipo treatment is performed in our physician’s office, using a sterile technique, with the use local anesthesia combined with tumescent anesthesia to ensure there is minimal to no pain. The patient is awake, relaxed, and usually watching TV as the Doctor removes the fat or tightens the skin depending on the treatment. The procedure involves a miniature cannula, which is a wand like apparatus which contains the laser that permanently removes the fat. The miniature cannula is inserted through the small 5mm incision and is moved along the treatment area melting the fat and suctioning it out of the area. For skin tightening, the CoolLipo laser is set to skin tightening and is moved along the treatment area to tighten the collagen and connective tissue. After the fat is removed, our doctors will go back along the treatment area to get the maximum possible skin tightening.

After the procedure we help the patient get into a Compression garment that assist with the healing process. Since the procedure permanently removes the fat, the compression garment is used to bring the skin layer and the muscle layer together and to prevent fluid from entering the area and settling. We recommend wearing the garment for at least 2 weeks, but the more time the garment is worn, the better the skin tightening and body contour will be.  The downtime of a patient is typically 12 to 24 hours depending on the amount of fat that is removed, or the amount of skin that is treated to bring back the elasticity. People are usually able to return back to work the next day after the procedure.

The healing time of the procedure is fairly short, but depends on the patients healing abilities and the amount of fat removed. The incision typically heals within days, with little to no bruising, scarring or swelling. Since the incision is so small, there typically is no noticeable scar that is left.

The results of the Cool Laser Liposuction can be seen right after the procedure, with a continuing improvement of body contouring and skin tightening, that can take up to 4 to 6 months before you see the full results of CoolLipo.
